Trees and houses don’t mix
Dead trees are to be expected when you have a lot of property, especially when a lot of that property is forest. We have been slowly bringing down the dead trees around our house but there was one on the side that we just hadn’t gotten to.
On Friday we noticed that the tree had made up its mind that it was going to come down on its own. Unfortunately, the direction it was leaning would mean it would come down on the house. This was pretty anxiety-ridden because it would land above our bedroom. Granted, this was much preferred to it landing on the kids’ bedrooms, but still not a comforting thought either way.
Tree trimmers arrived today, but they were setting up to support the tree when it came down. We were very lucky in that it missed the propane tank. It might have missed the explosive part (yay!) but it crashed onto the I-beam at the peak of the roof. The roof to the left of that beam is obviously lower and we can see into the house. We don’t see any damage on the inside but we have a storm coming in the next week and a good-sized hole leading straight into the underside of the roof.
Tree trimmers got the tree off the roof thankfully, and my husband was able to cut half pf it up and split it for firewood. The kiddos helped move the firewood.
